GridOnline is a bulk data backhauling service offered by NamPower (Pty) Ltd., the largest electric power utility in Namibia.
Launched in 2019, GridOnline has become a vital part of Namibia’s ICT infrastructure and a key platform for bulk data transmission.
GridOnline not only encompasses the most significant national data transmission links across Namibia but also connects to transmission networks in neighboring countries within the SADC region. It includes critical routes to the WACS and Equiano submarine cable systems.
GridOnline is dedicated to enhancing the ICT sector in Namibia and the Southern African region by providing fast and reliable backbone connectivity to service providers at competitive rates. We believe that access to bulk data transmission networks should be unbiased and equitable. Therefore, we ensure that our services and pricing are shared openly and transparently.

Major Milestones and Achievements
2017
NamPower was awarded a Class Network Facility Telecommunications Service Licence by the Communications Regulator.
2019
The commercial service was launched on 6 March 2019. At that time, the operation was formally introduced and named ‘GridOnline’. Since its launch and to date, GridOnline has been providing commercial data transmission services to its clients, who are mainly ICT operators and ISPs.
At launch the westbound route from Windhoek to Swakopmund was the first to be made available.
2020
The first price revision was implemented and the bulk of NamPower’s fibre network was made available to GridOnline’s clients. Also the first DWDM links were introduced.
2021
Major DWDM rollout on NamPower’s fibre routes. The first cross-border cross connection to South Africa was established.
2022
Roll-out of MPLS architecture at various stations to allow advanced service delivery. The second cross-border cross connection to Zambia was established.
2023
GridOnline connected NamPower to the WACS landing station in Swakopmund, Namibia.
2024
GridOnline became an independent and ring-fenced department within NamPower.
2025
GridOnline adopted a single charging zone and expanded the product offering to include IP-Transit (GridNet) and breakout services (FlexConnect). A multi-gigabit cross-border cross connection to Angola was established.
